The House of Nourishment

ZU CAFE

Zu Cafe was the evolutionary step forwards from Zu Studios, directed by Samira and Martin Thomas. Now moving into the heart of Lewes in the iconic 1950's bus station it became a social hub not only for the Zu community but for many in Lewes. Opening in September 2019 with a healthy traditional French creperie downstairs and a vegan restaurant upstairs, the philosophy was to offer freshly made nutritious food affordable prices. With delicious raw cakes, healthy smoothies, fermented foods, it offered something new to Lewes and was very busy from the start.

During the pandemic the restaurant shut and it became a vital support hub to keep the bus services running, help the homeless, send food packages to people with covid, facilitate internet access for those without and provide safe space for those in crisis to get support. After the pandemic the cafe opened again, but this time with a simpler menu focusing on healthy snacks, light bites and salads. Sadly in 2022 Zu Cafe shut after the developer gave notice to the bus company and cafe.
