SAMIRA HARRIS
Samira Harris is a fine artist and community facilitator based in the UK.
Since achieving a BA Honours in Drawing from the prestigious University of the Arts London in 2002 she has had numerous exhibitions, sold work internationally and had high profile commissions.
Samira has always felt there is huge value in working within the community and specifically loves inspiring children. Therefore she went on to qualify as a secondary school teacher, specialising in using art to support the expression of teenagers with neurodiversity.
During her thirties, she co-directed a community arts space called Zu Studios with founder Martin Thomas. She also continued to expand her own creativity into writing stories and developing a children's book called Freddie Fox which went on to become a theatrical production inside a 360 degree dome which toured festivals.
In her late thirties Samira felt exhausted from all the stimulation and activity involved in running a lot of community events so took time out to reset, meditate and further explore health, nutrition, wellbeing and healing modalities, which had been interests since childhood. She went on to qualify in massage, physiology and anatomy and opened a clinic offering lost cost therapeutic treatments back to the community.
In her early forties she then opened Zu Cafe with Martin Thomas, with the intention of filling the hole left after Zu Studios by providing a a new community space, this time with the focus on health and nutrition. The cafe became a vital space of support for many especially during the pandemic.
After the cafe shut due to redevelopment plans in 2022 Samira has been working on her second children's book, Little Fish.
