The humanity collection is a direct emotional and intellectual response to the brutality of this world.

The issues explored include war, depression, sexual degradation... all human disempowerment.

Pain is a great teacher of compassion.

Pain transported to paper is a testament to the brutality of this time and can stir consciousness into a greater compassion.

Lion man

To close yourself off to pain

Is to shut down the system that tells you what is wrong.

To brutalise yourself.

Allow it.

Feel it.

Understand it.

Walk through it

Remember it.

Appreciate it.

This is the nature of this world.

SH 05/06

These images are early works of Samira's, looking at the internal and external life of a prostitute.

These drawings reflect the shifting style of her work during her mid-twenties. The images are very direct expressions of a feeling whether it is to be without limbs caught in a web or unable to stand due to the density above.

This image was created near the end of the depressive era of work and was almost a call to herself to start looking up. It is an interesting mixture of descriptive drawing and abstract with the story focused on the past to the extent in which the future is blocked. The piece is entitled "Please look up" reminding the artist if your head is always bowed in sorrow from the pain in the world you will constantly walk into walls.

I have no time to pray...As I wait in the rain for that glimmer of truth...
The illusions presented to absorb, The truth is felt,
Yet it is an abstract form.
Nothing fits, As the body spasms from moment to moment,
Clouds form heavier and heavier.

I move lower in this oppression,

Attempting to find lighter air.

Till the density sucks me into the ground,
There is no struggle, just stillness..
As my stiff body seemingly floats through
The soil and rock, smelling the muskiness,
Seeing the darkness.

My one connection to reality is held
At a sensual distance.

I am somewhere else.

Mental Hell

Take the pain from my brain,

Take the blood from my body,

What I have is not enough,

And yet I have no more.
