Samira was asked to be part of a special exhibition to raise money for the Lewes Community Land Trust. The LCLT is a charity which tries to buy land that woukld be developed for profit for the sake of the community, with this land they work with the community to establich it's needs and create developments which are sympathetic to the heritage and environment. 23 established artists based in Lewes were asked to take part and each was given the same orange chair with no limits as to what could be done with it. Samira decided to honour the original design and history of the chair by creating a photoshoot using sympathetic props and lighting just as would happen if a beautiful young woman wanted to celebrate and immortalise her beauty in print. So the chair had close-up's and unusual angles taken on a chequered floor to set off it's colouring! However time moves on and society demanded that it must be changed, whether the chair like it or not! So the photos were cut into squares and laid like the chequered background over the original chair, thereby obliterating, or enhancing, it's much debated qualities. The chair was auctioned at the end of the exhibition for the charity. For more information visit: www.24chairs.co.uk |
